Mission: Raise $200,000 to sustain Amazing Afternoons

Amazing Afternoons, administered by Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS), is an after-school program at the Edward Williams Elementary School in Mt. Vernon, NY.

The program provides academic support, homework help, mentoring and enrichment activities to 125 1st-5th graders living in a a community challenged by economic disadvantage and under-resourced schools.. Eighty percent of the children qualify for free/reduced lunch, and a significant number of children are homeless..

Faced with the elimination of the state funding, which supported the program for the past eight years, Amazing Afternoons must raise $200,000 in private support in order to continue services for the 2011-2012 school year.

Administered by a WJCS professional and staffed by local teachers, support staff and administrators, Amazing Afternoons also receives significant assistance from a corps of adult and student volunteers from surrounding communities who enhance the program’s offerings.

Together, we aim to sustain the program to benefit the children of Mt. Vernon.
